Government Official Says Ministry of Defence Investigating Security Risk from Vehicles from China, with Staff Told to Refrain from Confidential Discussions in Vehicles.

A defense minister has stated that the Ministry of Defence is currently examining the potential threats associated with Chinese-made vehicles, while personnel have been instructed to refrain from discussing classified information in all cars.

Safety Guidance for MoD Personnel

During a recently aired interview on a radio station, a defence minister addressed reports that MoD officials have been instructed not to talk about classified material while riding in Chinese vehicles.

The minister said that the MoD is “examining” cars from China within its vehicle pools, however noted that safety is a issue in all modern vehicles.

Our department has a fleet of tens of thousands of vehicles in the MoD and those vehicles account for a tiny fraction.
But whether you’re driving a Chinese car or a non-Chinese car, what we’ve asked our people is to avoid connecting Ministry of Defence devices into their vehicle, to avoid having discussions at a classified classification in any car, due to the growing threats of eavesdropping that exist in every single vehicle, to restrict those confidential talks in protected areas. That’s a prudent and sensible thing for everyone concerned about safety.

When it was put to him that it would be wise for the MoD to cease using every cars from China, the minister replied: That is exactly what we’re investigating at the moment.”

Broader Defence Background

This revelation comes as reports from Scandinavian countries have alerted the UK to the existence of multi-purpose shutdown mechanisms in Chinese-made buses, which could enable China to disable buses and bring chaos to public transit.

Additionally, a Russian intelligence vessel has been directing laser beams at Royal Air Force pilots, described as a “extremely risky” act by government representatives.

This broader security environment underscores the importance of strong protocols and vigilance in every aspects of official operations, including vehicle use to discussions practices.
